Yule Ritual Plan: Rebirth of Light and Spirit

Preparation (Before Ritual)

Cleanse the space with smoke (sage, pine, or frankincense) or sound (bells or singing bowls).

Set up your altar with:

· Candles (gold, red, white)

· Evergreens (pine, holly, ivy)

· Sun symbols (spirals, gold ornaments)

· Animal totems (stag, bear, owl figurines or images)

· Yule log (decorated wood or candle arrangement)

· Seasonal fruits (apples, oranges)

· A bowl of snow or ice (if available)

· A gift or offering for nature spirits

Opening the Ritual

Cast a circle using salt, herbs, or visualization.

Call the quarters (East/Air, South/Fire, West/Water, North/Earth) with seasonal invocations.

Invoke deities or spirits you work with—especially solar deities, nature spirits, or the Horned God and Mother Goddess.

Main Ritual Components

Lighting the Candles

Say: “From the longest night, the light returns. I welcome the rebirth of the Sun and the spark within me.”

· Light each candle with intention (e.g., hope, clarity, courage).

Yule Log Blessing

· Write down what you wish to release from the past year.

· Place the paper in or near the Yule log.

Say: “I release what no longer serves me. May it be transformed by fire into light.”

· Burn the paper or symbolically light the log.

Sun Invocation

· Hold a sun symbol or gold ornament.

· Visualize a golden light rising from the horizon and filling your body.

Say: “I welcome the Sun’s return. May its light guide me through the coming year.”

Animal Spirit Connection

· Choose one winter animal to work with (bear, owl, wolf, stag).

· Meditate or journey to meet this spirit and ask for guidance.

· Record any messages or impressions.

Offering and Gratitude

· Place apples, oranges, or handmade gifts on your altar or outside as offerings.

Say: “I give thanks for the blessings of the Earth, the wisdom of the dark, and the promise of light.”

Closing the Ritual

Ground yourself by touching the Earth or eating something nourishing.

Thank the quarters and release the circle.

Extinguish candles mindfully, leaving one lit if you wish to keep the light burning.

Celebrate with music, food, storytelling, or gift-giving.

Optional Additions

· Divination: Use tarot, runes, or scrying to receive messages for the new year.

· Sigil Creation: Draw a sigil representing your intention for rebirth and empowerment.

· Sacred Crafting: Make sun wheels, pomanders, or evergreen charms.
